Taste Test - Firewater Grille

One month after my actual birthday, I'm still celebrating!  Today DT and RN took me out for a day of surprises.  PS couldn't make it but she also chipped in for my awesome day of surprises.  Thanks girls!  The day started off with a manicure and pedicure at Foxy Nails (the manicure and pedicure was good but we don't recommend it if you want good service) and then it was high tea at Firewater Grille at Duxton Hotel.

For $38 per person you get the Standard High Tea but for an extra $10 you get a glass of Chandon Brut NV so of course we went for the Sparkling High Tea for $48 per person.

Food and presentation - 3.5/5
I haven't heard about the high tea at Duxton Hotel before, so didn't really know what to expect and was glad that they served it the traditional way with the three tier stand.  The food was pretty good, nothing wow but it was good quality and there was ALOT of food, so much that we couldn't finish it!  A shame because I don't like to waste food.  There wasn't really anything that stood out from the crowd, but I really enjoyed the chocolate shot because the crunch was actually pop rock candy covered in chocolate; they would crackle in your mouth once the chocolate melted and that made me smile.

Service - 4/5
The service was really good, white glove service which is quite rare in Perth.  Actually, I don't remember the last time I went somewhere and received white glove service.  Our waitress was friendly, professional and chatty (we had a discussion about rude restaurant guests).  However, I didn't give them full marks as it was sometimes a bit hard to get the attention of wait staff because the place was quite big and they were not always in the vicinity and also because they forgot our cream and conserves for our scones and we had to ask.

Atmosphere - 4/5
I liked the atmosphere at the Firewater Grille.  The d├ęcor was nice, it was relaxing, the chairs were comfy and it was just great to see women everywhere (it is high tea after all) having a laugh and enjoying each other's company.

Value for money - 3.5/5
Similar pricing to other hotels that offer high tea with champagne but usually the champagne is free flow and not just one glass as it is here.

I will happily return for another high tea date with the girls.

Taste Test Total Score 15/20
